Scan - QR Code and Barcode Reader App Reviews

Crashes half the time

What a steaming pile of buggy garbage! This app has one job. One job! To scan a QR code. And it only manage to do so without completely crashing abpproximately half the time. I can understand detecting codes can be difficult, but to just simply CRASH every second time (on average) slapping a massive error code dump in the face of the user is buzzer. Seriously. One job. This is a paid product and some amount of error handling would have been nice. This is not even beta ready. One job.

Forget it.

I couldn’t get this to read ANY UPC symbol, which is the only reason I downloaded it. Forget it.

Scans Bitcoin QR Codes

I used the Scan app to scan a Bitcoin address QR code, and it worked quickly and flawlessly.

Great QR scanner

This app scanns QR codes practically instantly. Fast and accurate. This is what I bought it for, so I’m happy with it; but after seeing complaints in reviews I tried som traditional bar codes and have not been able to get Scan to read them. I would almost say they should just stop advertising it as reading traditional bar codes, as it does so very poorly. But for QR codes its great – maybe thye should focus on the various form of modern codes. Beyond fixing bar codes, the only suggestion I have is that the video when you’re scanning should be mirrored so that it’s easier to line up what you’re scanning with the view square.

Doesn’t work at all.

I looked at a number of QR scanning applications that weren’t also QR code designers. Most had a large number of low rankings, so I wasn’t holding out a lot of hope. In the case of this app, it fails to recognize that I have a web cam. I tried to use the search box to see if there was a way to configure the camera. This caused the application to hang completely. It couldn’t be closed with the close icon, “Force Quit” didn’t close it, and finally I went to a terminal window and tried to kill it that way. Nope, the app is still there and now I need to reboot my Mac.

New Version Works Much Better, Old Version Crashed on Scan

So my last review here on this app was that I couldn’t seem to open the app without it crashing. "Yep, comments are correct. The app crashes for me when scanning a regular code 39 barcode. Am running OS X 10.10.2 on Retina laptop. please fix.” The new version works now! Running OS X 10.11.2 btw on Retina Laptop (posting that cause some other reviews still claim crashing). Anyways, the ability to copy the scanned barcode is very welcomed! Bought this originally to scan a bunch of barcodes I had into a text document that I could save. Originally, it only scanned barcodes and then immediately opened up a web browser and took you to that URL. Now you can tell the program not to do that and then you can grab the text straight from the program. Thanks for the improvement guys, keep it up! BTW, the company’s support offering was very responsive which was nice to see for a change, though I had to wait for the updated version … and secondly, I forgot I had purchased this app and again needed something to scan barcodes into a text editor and figured I’d give this one a try again. Works nicely enough now! Always room for improvement though!

Average

Despite the bad reviews I bought it since it was on sale, It is not that bad. It reads most barcodes in split second just the smaller barcodes is an issue in my experience. overall worth the $1.99

Silly

First, I have had a success rate of around 30%… Second, many QRs are URLs and the app doesn’t give me a way to click on the link; that’s silly.

Just fine and fast

I downloaded this app, booted it, and scanned in the QR code in less than two minutes. It invoked instantly and read the QR code without any fuss. Very helpful.
