It works, sort of, using the MBP camera. Very finicky about the size of the QR code it’s being presented, and on some it doesn’t recognize larger or smaller size ones. Really picky about light levels. So far it’s read about half the codes I’ve presented to it—positioning is something that takes getting used to. No way that I’ve found to clear out the history list—that’d be nice to have. Other than that…..
This app is a fraud. Given the overwhelming consensus that this app simply does not work on macs, I think everyone who has purchased this app deserves a refund.
I saw the negative reviews and I hesitated to buy…but since it was on sale I gave it a roll of the dice. Works flawlessly. I tried a bunch of different codes and had absolutely NO problems at all. I normally don’t write reviews, but it seemed weird to me this was getting negative reviews. I’m on a late 2014 MacBook Pro Retina, just FYI. Good luck!
It’s scary to see how many people doesn’t know how to use a computer, let alone how to scan a code. Just bought this app for reading QR codes. My system is a late 2013 rMBP, OS X 10.9.4. I have no issues reading codes. Works like a charm. I generated six different QR codes myself using an app, and used various density codes with various sizes. It read all of them just fine: Geo, vCard, Event, Text, email, URL, etc. Great app! The added themes is a nice touch. Love the red theme and the minimal UI. Please add an option to be able to delete all history items at once. It’s a pain deleting a lot of items one by one. Also, please add support for geo codes to open the Apple Map app and find the location. For vCard scans, would be nice if it would ask if I want to add the card to my address book. But then again, I generated the code with a 3rd party app, so don’t know if this is a compatibility issue.
I can’t comment on how well this app reads QR codes and UPC product bar codes, but it is not able to scan the simplest 2-D barcodes, which is what I need to be able to do. Caveat emptor, I guess. If this seemingly trivial support ever gets added, I’ll adjust my review. At the least, the app should clearly state what bar codes are not supported.
Have it for about a month. Haven’t been able to scan a single item after a few dozen different tries. Completely worthless.
It works, BUT for smaller QR codes (which is most of them) you have to hold it further away from the camera than the alignent brackets suggest. You still need to center the code and hold still, but you don’t need to fill the brackets (which makes it too blurry for the computer to make out because the webcam can’t focus that close). So far I’ve had success with the ones I’ve tried.. :) Using a Macbook Pro Retina 15"
I just purchased this app and it worked immediately. Not sure why some are having trouble, but the scan was quick and accurate. I have an older MacBook Air (2011) running the latest OS.
This is a waste of money. I have installed it and tried to use it for an hour now and all it does is crashes. So lets say it take at the most 3 minutes to start up and try and scan something so then that is 20 times that I did that in the last hour. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!
I paid $2 for an app, I expect it to work. Can’t help the people that are having trouble… This app is just perfect, fool proof, works in a gif and is extremely reliable. Had it on my iphone and my ipad. Never regretted it. Thanks developers, this app is very helpful.
I just downloaded this app. I opened it immediately and it works perfectly. My Macbook Pro is from 2012 and has iOS X version 10.8.5.
This is an iMac with Yosemite. App opens, hangs around for 2-3 seconds, then crashes. Not helpful...
The app opens but crashes within 5 seconds. I want my money back.
Just purchased this App and it does not work on my current MacBook Pro. Opens then crashes.. Will request a refund from Apple.
scan worked great for a trade show—but cant seem to get them to upload from my mac to scan.me
I got a great deal. I only paid 50% of what I would have for something that does’t work. Give me a break. Apple, why don’t you suggest the developer fix it?
Unless the QR code is super large, it has to be placed very close to the FaceTime camera and is not clear enough to scan. They need to put a disclaimer to warn folks. A complete waste of $2. Not certain if it works with outher built-in cameras.
Tried several barcodes, several products, multiple distances. It failed every time.
